(These are preliminary rules. They are subject to change.)
Debate Club Rules:
1. To set up the debate, there are two ways:
a)Post in the thread saying that you want to debate another member on a given topic. In the next post, the member has the option to accept or reject the proposal.
b)PM the Administrator or the staff indicating that you want to debate a particular member. In this PM, you must put these things:
i)The subject of the debate
ii)The member you want to debate.
iii)Why you want to debate the subject.
iv.)The particular side (pro or con) that you are taking concerning the subject.
In turn, the member that you challenge to a debate must answer ASAP in a PM to the Administrator or Staff whether he or she wants to debate with you.
Once, the pro and con sides are established, then take it to the Debate Club.
Here are the rules in order for the debate to function properly:
1) Each member has one post to explain their side of the debate as follows:
a)The topic of the debate
b)Three reasons why you support or refute the subject matter with convincing evidence that lays out your claim.
c)Any other details that you can add to flesh out your claim.
2)The succeeding posts will extensively deal with the subject and its rebuttal.
3)During the debate, a staff member can interject with questions of his/her own to each of the debators. To the side this question is posed, the debator will have to answer thoughtfully.
4)At the end of the debate, members and staff will have a chance to vote on the winner of the debate. This will be done by placing a post indicating why a particular member is the winner of the debate.
5)After the votes are tallied, the winner will be determined.
6)When the winner is determined, he/she will get a "Debate Winner" title in their mini-profile. The loser will get a "Debate Participant" in their mini-profile.
A winner who has won at least five times in the Debate club will get a "Pro Debator" title in their mini profile.
A winner who has won at least ten times in the Debate club will get a "Master Debator" in their mini profile.
After a particular stretch of time, there will be a competition between Master Debators. The winner of these debates will get a special title in their mini-profile that indicates their particular skill in this area.
7)The best debates will be placed in the forum archives for future members to read with the special indication that this was an important mark in CNV forum history.
So, do your best! You may end up with a title and fame to boot!
