Although we still have a long way to go before voting next year, it is always nice to peer into the crystal ball and see what types of issues that will take center stage in the campaigns. This aspect will probably be wide open to interpretation, but I think that one mainstay might be immigration. Although the Senate has agreed with a bill that specifically points out aspects that undocumented workers must follow in the path to citizenship, listening to the talk shows late last night has revealed that there are plenty of people in the United States who are incensed at the terms of what was agreed upon. Therefore, I think that the immigration issue is not staying away by any stretch of the imagination. Instead, it will still be an issue that will make its way into the Presidential debates. Another issue that might make it, imho, would be how foreign relations is going to be repaired by the next President. Although "what type" of foreign relations that will be conducted is debatable ( ), I think that the candidates will try to sell themselves as being "better than Bush"--in terms of not trying to waste the good will America has had with other nations in the past. As a result, we will probably see as early as the summer a lot of ads, speeches and other fare from the candidates trying to present themselves as adept in foreign relations--especially when it has to do with how the Iraq War is dealt with. Those are my two picks. What do you guys think?
