First of all, I have to apologize to all of you for not being around as much the last few days. Unfortunately, RL has a way of putting roadblocks in your online life.
But in the future, there is going to be some scheduling going on so that I will be around more, especially to answer questions as well as participate in discussions!
I have to agree. I once got the advice - years ago - that when a board starts up, and is still small, it's better to have just a couple of Forums, with lots of posts, than many forums with only a few, or even no posts.
First of all, Gem, thanks for your comments. I believe that too. It's just that when I started the board, I thought that there might be a lot of things that people can engage in discussion than just politics. So, I wanted to add a variety of topics that people can be comfortable with. But, I realize that sometimes, a lot can be
too much.
In the first rating I received for CNV, I got the admonition to focus on politics and current news as my central topics. That is why the cultural, social and political boards remained untouched. These are all important topics that deserve discussion, so, I would like these to stay. However, I love entertainment. It deserves to be there as well. I had gotten a lot of responses on Entertainment, so it would be best that it stays. The tricky part is finding out what topics in entertainment that you all like best.
Lol.
Yes, we have grown. Thank you for your compliment. And I am very, very proud of the community here. You and the rest have made me very happy.
Although we each have our different opinions on topics, I am very glad of everyone's participation. It looks like we're getting off to a great start.
Gem, I thought about what you said. I think you're right that they need to be consolidated. However, MS &R is a staff-only board and that's what I'm worrying about. However, the MS & R can go into Board business as stickies. So, yes, they can be consolidated and I will set out to do so.
That is true. I thought at the time that the rules might change--especially when it comes to the Round Table discussions when there is a bigger community. But, I think that it can be consolidated also to make the board a little bit more streamlined. I am glad that you pointed this out. Thank you very much.
Yes, it can. I thought at first, that "Cool Things" might be something to attract more people on the board. But, it can basically be part of the General discussion of all things off topic.
Hey, your advice is great! I appreciate it. But, I am glad for your response as well as Frank's. That's what Board Business is for. It is a place where members can speak out, ask questions and make comments.
As a community, we can submit ideas here and talk them out. That's especially what I wanted when I created this board. And I am glad that everyone is utilizing it here to discuss issues about the board.
I believe--even though sometimes we might have different opinions of things--that we can collectively deal with these issues together in order to make the forum more conducive for everyone. And I do not mind if people do ask questions or make comments. I will listen to everyone and try to make assessments.
So always, feel free to suggest and talk about things here.
I think there are a lot in the main page of the forum. But one solution, and to where you don't lose any of them, is to stick a lot of them into sub-forums. It would make the main page less of a long drag of forums to scroll through.
Thank you, Frank, for your comments as well. I am very appreciative of them. I worried about the page being a long drag because it seems to be not only intimidating but rather exhaustive to look at. I've started consolidating some subjects into sub-boards and will watch to see which ones are favorites of the members here. Right now, politics, culture, history and entertainment are hot boards.
(Sports, of course, is a favorite of mine, but it is up to you all if you would like it to stay or not. I usually am active on the sports boards during football and college basketball season, since those are my two favorite sports.
)
The point is that it is all up to you guys what you would like. I suggested my reasons why I picked the topics. But, it matters to me greatly what everyone else thinks. My mission here is
not to make this into a dictatorship. I don't want it to be and I'm sure no one else wants it as well.
So, as the days roll on, please keep on giving your comments to me and we'll work it out.
