This is merely my opinion, and not really based in fact. But, I think we should not rule of the outside chance that Russia is looking for an outside enemy, and every Russian citizen will be glad to tell you how the United States destroyed Russia. Makes perfect sense.
But, in recent years, Russia has been in no position seek out an enemy to hide issues at home. The issue comes in that Russia is starting to develop a much more stable economy, and a far more stable economy then that of the "I have tons of land, therefore resources, but they ran out" structure of the Soviet Union.
Russian defense spending increased 33% from 2002 to 2003, and in higher increments each successive year. These statistics say one loud message: Russia is back, and they need an enemy.
What do you all think about it?

Believe it or not, I would definitely think so after the comments came out of the G8 summit. It seems that President Bush and his cohorts don't know when to stop when it comes to stirring up conflict across the globe--especially when making deals with Poland about placing a missile defense shield on the country's borders. This is such an underreported story that more people ought to know about--especially when paying attention to what Russia's Foreign Minister had to say in a Reuters report: When I've discussed the poor foreign relations policy of the United States with other people, it has been said that this is "nothing new" and that Mr. Bush's actions have not changed the relations that America has had with other countries. But after reading what Russian President Putin has said as well as other leaders from across the globe, I cannot help but think that this is not "nothing new", but rather it is something we have to watch out for. It is highly important that we choose carefully the people we want to lead us in the next Presidential elections. Otherwise, we'll be in a deeper mess not only in the Middle East, but in tensions with Russia to boot. Thank you for bringing this up. It needs to be spoken about and analyzed only because there is a war of words now between Russia and the United States.
