I just finished the book Hood by Stephen Lawhead, and I must say it was quite an interesting read. I was a bit disappointed when I realised that it's actually the tale of Robin Hood (which should be obvious from the title, not?)... But luckily Lawhead gave a whole new twist to it. The same underlying idea of Robin Hood is still there, but he's moved to Wales as "the Raven King". The theory that Robin Hood was actually from Wales is supported by some historical facts as explained by Lawhead in the after word. I learned a lot about British history, which made the read worthwhile.
Sometimes the story is a bit slow when it focuses on the Barons, Kings and Lords and the politics of running a district. Also a lot of Welsh words and names is used - which is both difficult to read if you don't know how to pronounce it, and difficult to understand if you don't know the meaning of the words.
Other than that it was a pretty good read, lots of action, adventure, some suspense, and just enough romance not to bore me. I would recommend the book if you like your history or if you're a fan of Robin Hood.
The catch is that this is the first book of a series - the next is said to be published later this year. Luckily the ending of the first book is satisfying enough not to urge you to buy the next book.
