Reuters reported today that Prince William and his girlfriend of four years, Kate Middleton, split amicably. Prince William is going through military training for the next few years. That, the paper allegedly said, helped to create an impasse in the relationship.
There had been hints that the couple would get engaged and have a royal wedding, according to British newspapers.
What does everyone think about this?

I don't know much about the Royal family and their comings and goings, but at a quick glance I have an issue... When is Mr. Prince (and his younger hooligan brother) going to become "adults"? William is 24 going on 25. When is he going to get a real job? Or is he waiting for the throne?
And secondly - Personally I think William is gay. No it's not based on fact...

I think that everyone (even the press) still considers them "Lady Diana's sons". I think that even though they are "adults", there are a lot of people that remember when each of them was born and will never give them the space to "grow up". Otherwise, Mr. Prince and his hooligan brother will probably do a lot more partying and dating before that ever happens. But we'll see if the British Military has a hand in "turning them into men". I think he's just waiting for the throne. But as I heard someone else say, it might take an eternity before that happens. After all, HRH Queen Elizabeth is still alive. Prince Charles is still alive. And it took 101 years before the Queen Mum passed. So, maybe the two Princes might have to find a "day job" in there. I'd be quite interested to hear your theory. To be serious, you're not the first to say this....

Is the British taxpayer willing to pay for their partying until they finally "grow up"? I don't know. I always had this feeling. Maybe it's the legendary "gaydar" (something in the line of wishful thinking) or perhaps it’s his mannerism, which isn't always "manly" like his little bro. It's difficult to tell with the British guys. Especially if they're well mannered princes...

I think that there is a movement in Britain that does that exact thing. After all, there have been a lot criticism from the British public about how the Royals are living on the national dime. When Princess Diana died, a lot of the same rumblings came up. But, I think that HRH Queen Elizabeth had actually done a little budgetary cutting on her own in recent times. I have to look this up though to make sure because I've read about this aspect a while back. You might be right. Besides the small blurbs about him doing skiing when the Royal family has been on vacation, I haven't read anything that would outwardly show his "manly" side. Prince Harry has always been more outspoken and demonstrative on that accord than his brother (in the "reserved" British way, of course) in many ways. But, I don't picture Prince William as the "rugged, manly" type at all. I've always seen him as reserved, but stoic. I'm sure that comes from the fact of being constantly reminded of "his duties" as the future monarch of England. But other than that, I haven't seen little else that would make him seem more "manly". But, then again, it comes back to the perception of himself being Princess Diana's first born. That's why I wonder how he'll turn out as a result of being in the British Military in the next several years. However, for a royal to be in the military is simply a role. I think that in British history, it is almost a given that all the men of the family have to go into the military anyway. There's no explicit rule, here. But, from reading historical accounts, it's always been done. But you're right. You never can tell.
